Found in my Freezer
So I finally got rid of my freezer that has been around since 1950. In it I found two cans of this stuff. Pretty cool, no pun intended. This must be the precursor to ice gel packs. They were way ahead of their time.

IS there by chance an old vintage 1950s Coleman cooler around?
That's where these came from, they were supplied with the coolers, maybe Coleman refridgerators as well, but nowhere else that I'm aware of.
