Ducks
It is with great sadness that I must report that something has apparently happened to the male mallard shown on this blog.
Yesterday evening I saw his wife. Alone. Wandering around the neighborhood looking totally lost. The two of them were never more than a foot apart. By this time in the afternoon they should be napping underneath my trees. Unfortunately, neither of them have returned, and I fear the worst for the poor chap.
I never even new his name.
Damn.
Maybe by some miracle he will show up again, but I'm not very confident right now.

And he wasn't much of a friend. He was abusive and mean to his wife, who was a totally sweet person.
I've been feeling sad about your malards all day. This evening a Mother duck escorted her seven babies across the pasture and into our pond. That helped. Our "Chuck" was very polite to all of them and told them to come back any time. Ducks are great!
One week has passed since the missing ducks. Any news?
Sadly, in the week that has passed I have seen neither duck. I assume that something happened to the male (probably got hit by a car, as they sometimes stood in the street)and the female has moved on. I miss those crazy ducks, even if they did get in my pond and eat all the pond plants, and generally act like they owned the place. Dang.
